Valerie Zamora

Valerie Zamora          Ms. Zamora performs the great piano literature of the Classical and Romantic era. Her concerts take her across the U.S., to Canada and Europe. She also promotes contemporary artists and loves to explore the limits of expression with new music styles. For chamber music, Ms. Zamara has been recognized for her chamber music prowess, and has performed in countless chamber settings. Her playing is marked by her ability to draw her audiences through the music with a storytelling capacity, and creating a sense of musical truth. Among her engagements for the 2004-2005 season, the highlight is an all-Beethoven recital at Carnegie Hall.

Ms. Zamora presents masterclasses, workshops, or lectures along with her recitals. She enjoys working with students and passing down the traditions of the art of piano playing. She also holds lectures on how we hear sound, the unlimited sensitivity we use to communicate through music. Recently, she has combined this work with research in Beethoven studies to shed new perspectives on his compositions.

In addition to recitals, Ms. Zamora is composing the music for a stage production with a performance at the end of the season. An extensive production of a multi-media nature, the music covers choruses, solos, and chamber players.

Ms. Zamora studied with some of the most outstanding pedagogues and performers of the times. The list includes Adele Marcus, Einar Steen-Noekleberg, Marvin Blickenstaff, and Walter Hautzig. She received most of her conservatory training at the Hochschule fuer Music und Theater in Hannover, Germany. She also attended the Juilliard School in New York City and the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimjore. She has been a scholarship member of the Swiss festivals, Tibor Varga in Sion, and Concours de Musique in Morges, and she was a full scholarship recipient to the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado. In addition to festival scholarships, she has received numerous grants and academic scholarships, including one from the North Carolina Arts Council and one from the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts.

Although immersed in practice and performance, Ms. Zamora enjoys the outdoors, knitting Scandinavian sweaters, and preparing an occasional gourmet meal. She currently resides in North Carolina.
